From one cow to building purpose-driven enterprises with resilience and vision

A Humble Beginning

Not all journeys begin with grand plans or bold announcements. Some begin quietly—with responsibility, determination, and the courage to take the first step.

For Ashalatha, it started with a single cow and a simple yet powerful thought—to build something of her own. What followed was not an easy path, but one defined by persistence, sacrifice, and the strength to move forward despite every challenge.

Today, her journey stands as a powerful reminder that consistency, hard work, and belief can transform even the smallest beginnings into something truly meaningful.

At the heart of her journey lies unwavering support.
She often acknowledges that behind every successful woman stands a strong, sincere, encouraging, and loving partner—her husband. Along with him, her children and parents have been constant pillars of strength throughout her journey.

With this strong foundation, Ashalatha has grown into a multi-faceted individual—balancing her role as a homemaker while leading Siddhi Dairy Farms, Suraksha Home Products, and Samrudhi Global Ventures.

She also engages in B2B networking, NGO activities, and works as an insurance advisor and authorised mutual fund distributor. In her free time, she writes short poems, some of which are published in the Chinnara Angala book.

A Beginning with Purpose

Ashalatha’s journey began in 2001, with a single cow gifted by her grandmother.

Born and brought up in Bengaluru in a well-established family, her parents Ramakrishna & Saraswathi, she married Rajakumar, has children Shashank Rajakumar and Kalpak Rajakumar, and siblings Ambika B R, a software engineer, and Dr Vinod B R, professor at BMSIT college.

She had no background or knowledge in farming. Yet, she carried a strong desire to create her own identity.

She completed her Bachelor’s and Postgraduate degrees after marriage, proving that growth has no fixed timeline.

While her husband, Mr Rajakumar, had already established Kumar Engineering Corporation (1995), Ashalatha chose a different path—to build something of her own.

“I had a vision. I wanted to achieve something and build my own identity.”

Learning Before Choosing

Before stepping into dairy farming, Ashalatha approached entrepreneurship with clarity and preparation.

She underwent an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) at AWAKE and training at GKVK, with advice of MSME, explored multiple industries—masala powders, plastic manufacturing, garments, washing units, dark stores, franchisee and more.

She carefully studied project reports, analysing investment requirements, infrastructure, returns, and market feasibility, while also evaluating her own strengths and limitations.

Only after this thoughtful exploration did she choose dairy farming.

A Decision Beyond Convention

During her interactions in rural areas, she observed something surprising—many villagers were hesitant to rear even a few cows, considering it too labour-intensive.

At the same time, she faced criticism and doubt—not only from society but also from relatives and friends.

Many appeared to encourage her on the surface, but were not genuinely supportive behind her back. She also faced several challenges within the family during the initial phase.

She was often questioned:

“Why do you want to do this? Don’t you have better options?”

But instead of stepping back, she stood firm and felt proud of her choice.

“I am proud to be a farmer.”
“I wanted to take up a challenge—not follow what everyone else was doing.”

This bold decision set her apart—leading her from dairy farming to becoming a woman entrepreneur in engineering fabrication, a field where very few women venture.

Built with Effort, Not Ease

The journey was not easy. In one of the most defining moments, the family converted their own bedroom into a cow shed to begin dairy operations.

From one cow to over 40, the farm grew steadily across Srirampuram and Rajanukunte.

It was built through sleepless nights, physical effort, sacrifice, and unwavering patience.

There were no pauses—not during illness, pregnancy, or even after delivery.

Quality Over Convenience

Ashalatha focused on one principle—quality without compromise.

She supplied pure, high-quality milk, earning deep trust among customers—so much so that they preferred making ghee at home rather than buying from the market.

Under the Suraksha brand, she built a loyal and growing customer base.

Kamadhenu, worshipped as a symbol of abundance, is truly our family’s lifeline—providing us with all our necessities. We are grateful for all that we have received and continue to receive.

Expanding with Purpose

With a strong foundation in dairy, she expanded into the food sector.

After training at GKVK, she launched Suraksha Home Products, under the Suraksha Brand, and she only created label designing for her own products. It is very interesting.

  • Amla-based juices and health products
  • Pickles, thokku, and jams
  • Ragi-based nutritional products

Her participation in Krishi Mela, Swadeshi Mela, and various exhibitions helped her connect directly with customers and grow her brand.

Balancing Multiple Worlds

For over 19+ years, Ashalatha successfully balanced multiple roles—entrepreneur, mother, homemaker, and a full-time manager in a private limited company.

She handled operations, accounts, marketing, and client relationships, earning strong appreciation for her ability to manage diverse responsibilities.

This experience shaped her confidence:

“When we can manage multiple responsibilities and close crores of business, closing deals and good interaction and having good rapport with staff, clients and vendors for another company, why can’t we do it for ourselves?”

Despite her demanding schedule, she found moments for herself.

In her free time, she expressed her thoughts through short poems—reflecting her creativity and inner strength.

Strength Through Challenges

·  Years of relentless work eventually affected her health, leading to a slipped disc and a long recovery, and her mother-in-law also underwent heart surgery. During the Kaveri bandh, her husband met with an accident and got multiple ortho surgeries.

Labour challenges added further pressure.

With clarity and courage, she made a bold decision—closing the Rajanukunte unit and continuing operations at Srirampuram with a reduced scale.

This was not a setback—it was a strategic step forward.

Service Beyond Business

During COVID-19, she ensured an uninterrupted milk supply to her customers.

She also extended her support to the community by distributing food and placing water pots for birds and animals, reflecting her compassion beyond business.

Lifting Others Along the Way

Ashalatha believes in growing together.

She has supported many individuals in becoming independent—motivating them to start small businesses, providing financial help, and guiding them in skills like embroidery and handicrafts.

She has also stood by people during medical challenges, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence.

Recognition that Made a Difference

Her first major recognition—the Women Achievers Award from COWE (2018)—was a turning point. It was her first honour and a deeply emotional moment for her and her family. Until then, many had doubts. That recognition brought validation, pride, and renewed confidence.

These recognitions strengthened her and motivated her to do even better.

She later received:

  • Super Star Raita Award – Bengaluru Urban (2019), where she is the only one woman selected out of 5 men from Bengaluru Urban, and it was a very prestigious moment, and it was printed in Kannada and English Daily News papers.
  • Sadakiyarige Sanmana – Smrithi Sadana (2021). Happy when receiving honour from women leaders in business.

Rebuilding and Rising Again

With renewed vision, we renamed it Samrudhi Global Ventures, reflecting our belief in growing prosperity without boundaries, on a global scale. She revived the fabrication business under a new identity:

Samrudhi Global Ventures – MS & SS Fabrication

After analysing current market trends, she observed rapid growth in the real estate sector and increasing demand for MS and SS fabrication. This inspired her to reignite the earlier business.

Despite not coming from a technical background, she embraced learning with confidence. Her husband’s vast experience in fabrication became a strong support, enabling her to grow as a serial entrepreneur.

“The product may differ, but the process can always be learned.”

Through client meetings and site visits, she built her understanding and capabilities.

She manages client interactions and administrative activities, while Mr Rajakumar oversees technical, production, and operational aspects.

Today, the company is executing projects for Shobha Apartments, EcoWorld (RMZ), Surya City KHB, and several ongoing developments.

A Message that Reflects Her Belief

Ashalatha’s perspective on life is simple, yet profound:

“We are born, we live, and one day we leave. Life is not only about education, marriage, and responsibilities—we can do much more.”

“Life is like a vast ocean—we can go as far as we are willing to swim.”

She firmly believes:

There is no business without risk, and every journey has its ups and downs. We have faced challenges, successes, failures, profits, losses, and many responsibilities along the way.

Believe in yourself, give your best, and leave the rest—your efforts will surely pay off.

If our journey inspires even a few people to grow and change their lives, that itself is enough and meaningful.

In the end, a person is not permanent, but their achievements and good work remain forever.

Inspired by Great Lives

She draws inspiration from Mrs Sudha Murthy, Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and many more……

A Mindset That Inspires

“If a person without  hands can set a Guinness record in swimming, and a blind person can study medicine and perform surgeries—why can’t we achieve what we dream of?”

For her, limitations are not barriers—they are challenges to overcome.

The Journey Continues

From one cow to 40+…
From doubt to recognition…
From confidence challenge…

Ashalatha’s journey is a powerful testament to what continuous,  sincere effort, courage, and belief can build.

And her journey is still unfolding……………
